Liquid sodium silicate also appears under the names of liquid glass or water glass.  It reacts under acidic conditions and forms a hard glassy - like gel. This makes it useful as a bonding agent in cemented products like cement and abrasive wheels. Sodium silicate is also an excellent adhesive for glass and porcelain. It is also traditionally used in egg preservations.
