Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic compound and is commonly called caustic potash. Along with sodium hydroxide, this colorless solid is a prototypical strong base. It has many industrial and niche applications, most of which exploit its caustic nature and its reactivity toward acids. The major uses are in the production of potassium carbonates, potassium phosphates, liquid fertilizers and potassium soaps and detergents.

Potassium Hydroxide is extremely corrosive and can be a hazardous irritant when exposure is at high levels. According to its Material Safety Data Sheet, it "May cause irritation. ... Potassium hydroxide is corrosive!
