The garden swimming pool and hot tubs is not only a joy to play and the opportunity to cool down on hot days, but also the need for regular water purification. In stagnant water and high temperatures, bacteria and algae can multiply extremely quickly, which can become pathogenic factors for people using the pool. Pool water treatment should be carried out in four stages, including: pH adjustment, disinfection, algae removal and coagulation. Why is the regulation of the pH of the pool water so important and what should be the pH of the water in our garden pool?

The water in the pool tank should have a skin-friendly pH of 7.2 - 7.6. Water with a pH of 7.2 is neutral, and a pH above 7.2 - slightly alkaline. It changes very often, so in the summer season you should test the water pH at least once a week. In hot weather, the pH may rise and its lowering is caused by rains. A pH below 7.2, i.e. the acidic reaction of the water, may corrode the metal parts of the pool, damage the joints or reduce flocking. On the other hand, too high a pH - alkaline - causes an unpleasant itching sensation on the skin. It can also cause limescale deposits in the water, reduce flocking and reduce the effectiveness of disinfection.

Water with a low pH can corrode pool pumps, heat exchangers and damage the pool lining. pH plus is a powdered additive that can be used to raise the pH to a desired level. However, too high a pH level and the effectiveness of all chlorine disinfectants begins to decline. Always try to achieve a pH level between 7.2 and 7.6. pH plus is suitable for use in swimming pools, spas or jacuzzis.
