Cerium Oxide, also known as cerium oxide, cerium dioxide, is a rare earth metal cerium oxide. It comes in a light yellow and white powder. It is an important commercial product and an intermediate in the purification of the element from ores.

Cerium oxide is used in ceramics for sensitizing photosensitive glass, as a catalyst and as a catalyst carrier. It is also used for polishing glass and stones in the lapidarium as an alternative to "jewelry pink". Another, more popular name is "optics rose".

It is also used in the walls of self-cleaning furnaces as a hydrocarbon catalyst during the high-temperature cleaning process.
