Rhodamine B is a chemical compound and a dye.
Rhodamine B is often used as a tracer dye within water to determine the rate and direction of flow. Rhodamine dyes fluoresce and can thus be detected easily using fluorometers. It is used as an intense pink dye and a dye for dye lasers.
It is used at low levels of 1kg per million litres of water (i.e. 1ppm) which permits visual determination of water flow. At these levels it is not considered to be harmful to fish.
