Potassium chloride, also known as KCl or potassium salt. It is a metal halide salt containing potassium and chlorine. It is an odorless solid with a white to colorless glassy crystal appearance. Potassium chloride is easily soluble in water, and its solutions have a salt-like taste.

USES:

• production of potassium hydroxide and metallic potassium.
• in medicine (lethal injections),
• various scientific applications,
• food processing,
• soaps.

It is sometimes used in water as a finishing fluid in oil and gas operations and also as an alternative to sodium chloride in domestic water softening units. KCl is useful as a source of beta radiation for the calibration of radiation monitoring equipment because natural potassium contains 0.0118% of the 40K isotope.
