Sodium bicarbonate also known as soda bicarbonate or baking soda, a chemical compound consisting of a sodium cation and a bicarbonate anion. It is in the form of a white, crystalline solid, most often in the form of a powder. It is a great and versatile product for everyday household needs. Baking soda is perfect for cooking and cleaning at home.

Uses:

1. Kitchen - Baking soda is mainly used in baking as a leavening agent. Sodium bicarbonate is also used to acidify baked goods containing acidic ingredients. The acid reacts with sodium bicarbonate to release bubbles of carbon dioxide. You will always see baking soda in recipes that also contain some acidic ingredient such as vinegar, yogurt, or buttermilk.
2. Cleaning - Sodium bicarbonate can be used to remove mould, stains, refresh the refrigerator, deep clean pots and pans, deodorize upholstery, refresh the mattress and deep clean.
3. Bath bombs - a key ingredient in the production of bath balls. The chemical reaction between water, sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid causes effervescence and bubbles when the finished bath ball hits the water.
4. Pest Control - Sodium bicarbonate can be an effective way to control fungal growth.
5. Alkalinity / Increase in pH - Sodium bicarbonate can be administered to pools, spas and garden ponds to increase total alkalinity. This will also raise the pH level and help maintain the correct pH.
6. Pyrotechnics - Sodium bicarbonate is one of the main ingredients in common fireworks.
7. Mild disinfectant - Has poor disinfectant properties and may be an effective fungicide against certain organisms.
8. Fire extinguisher - Sodium bicarbonate can be used to put out small fires of fat or electrical appliances by throwing it over the fire, as heating sodium bicarbonate releases carbon dioxide.
