Borax Substitute & TriSodium Phosphate Substitute

Sodium sesquicarbonate has a crystalline form which is classified as non-irritating and therefore suitable for use in many consumer products.

It offers an intermediate pH / alkalinity that lies between soda ash and sodium bicarbonate - making it an effective substitute for borax and trisodium phosphate (TSP).

It is mainly used in laundry as a water softening powder and laundry booster but also has a wide application as a limescale prevention powder, conservation of copper and copper alloys and as a scouring agent.

It is often used in bath salts and swimming pools as an alkalinity source for water treatment.

When mixed with vinegar / acetic acid or citric acid it makes the product fizz  making it a much safer, effective and eco friendly drain opener and sink unblocker.

Verdigris Removal from copper coins

Fast delivery and good packaging of this chemical for removal of verdigris from some low value copper coins. Tried this after reading about this method using 5% solution of Sodium Sesquicarbonate. Seems to be working well although its a long process to dissolve the corrosion from the surface. Obviously corrosion damage to coin's surface will not be repaired but the ugly verdigris is reducing at each replenishment of the solution. Coins original patina is slightly dulled but this chemical does not remove the dark patina from the copper, so might give it a go on one or two better coins.
